Alliance Housing’s renovation of 2011 Pillsbury in 2008 made it blend in with other stately mansions in the Whittier neighborhood. The 3 story Pillsbury property has 25 rooms and two small studio apartments. Tenants of the rooms have a lease in their name and sole access to their room and share a bathroom and kitchen with other tenants.
All tenants are single adults who agree to house rules restricting after hours guests. Some tenants stay for a few months, and many have lived in the building for 5 or more years. All must be able to live independently.
Rooms are an affordable option for low wage working adults and persons on a fixed income. 14 of the rooms are guaranteed to long term homeless applicants. Public funding requires that all tenants must earn less than 30% of area median income ($22,050) at move-in.
There is a coin operated washer and dryer in the basement. Tenants gather for a summer BBQ and occasional meals.
2011 Pillsbury is designed for transit dependent tenants and is on several great bus routes. There are a limited number of parking spaces. There is a bike rack.
