Portland Village is a sober, supportive, permanent, multi-family housing community located in the Ventura Village neighborhood of Minneapolis. It is situated on bus lines, near several community human services agencies, hospitals, schools, and other community resources. Portland Village consists of three apartment-style buildings and a central administrative building that houses a PICA/Head Start daycare program, staff offices, and a large family activity room. The project has 2, 3, and 4 bedroom apartments – 26 units in all. Each building includes access to laundry facilities, storage area and community room. A computer resource lab is available for adults.
Portland Village serves homeless, economically disadvantaged families in which one adult household member experiences a disability. Support services at Portland Village include family-centered case management, life skills services, tenant-driven activities and council and access to employment services. The mission of the project is to provide families safe, sober, affordable housing in combination with support services that will facilitate family stabilization, an increase in skills and income, an increase in health and wellness, and overall housing stabilization. The entire family is engaged in the program goals and services.
